French Bulldog in Toffee (After Émile Gallé)

from $35.00

Artist Émile Gallé is best known for his ethereal glass creations, but apparently he had a silly side too: he made a series of French bulldogs in dressing gowns. Most, like this one, are wearing some kind of fancy dressing gown; others wear wigs — one has a brooch with a picture of a cat on it. What I take away: everybody’s gotta be silly sometimes. This seriously silly bulldog is here to help remind us of that.

ABOUT THE ART

Canine fine art? Yes please. Artist Jessica Poundstone loves both dogs and art, which led her to create the book Museum of Dogs (Chronicle Books, April, 2025). She fell in love so deeply with the dogs in the book, she was moved to create art inspired by them!
